MotherCare & Next Step is a weekly drop-in program for pregnant women and new mothers. This program provides mother’s FREE milk, prenatal vitamins, and nutritious foods, prenatal and postnatal health information, and breastfeeding and parenting support strategies. This program also includes on-site programs for children accompanying their moms! 

Eligibility for MotherCare:

  • Women who are pregnant
  • Women with kids 0-2 months of age (if you started attending program while pregnant)

Eligibility for Next Step:

  • Women with kids 3-36 months of age
  • Women with kids 0-2 months of age (if you started attending program after the birth of your child)

Mama Tribe

This drop-in peer support group is offered to mothers who are looking for caring, non-judgmental, mother-to-mother support and educational opportunities. Pregnant women, new moms and their babies will have the opportunity to meet other moms in the area, speak with trained peer leaders and visit with special guests including a public health nurse, lactation consultant, nurse practitioner, postpartum mood disorder specialist and many others. Whether you choose to bottle or breastfeed, all are welcome to drop by!

*Nursing and breastfeeding support is available during Mama Tribe.

After Baby Group

Weekly on Thursday for 8 occurrences

This 8-week support group is for new moms who are experiencing mood changes after having a baby and is facilitated by Chigamik’s Indigenous Perinatal Mental Health Worker. The group provides a safe space to meet other new parents who are also experiencing mood changes and creates a circle of support. The group will discuss coping and self-care strategies including:

  • Education surrounding the various mood disorders, exploring the signs and symptoms
  • Understanding imbalances through the use of the medicine wheel and support in developing a wellness framework
  • Development of a wellness model to further support your relationships and assist in coping through difficult emotions
  • Development of coping strategies and self-care strategies and understanding of the importance of self-care

*Childminding available for walking children (toddlers), parents may bring babes in arms.

Infant Massage: The Basics

Infant massage is a great way to bond with your baby. Come and learn from Doula and Registered Massage Therapist, Miranda Garneau, about the many benefits of infant massage including: stimulating baby’s central nervous system and increasing baby’s body awareness. Participants will also learn about abdominal massage to help with digestion and colic, and soothing and relaxing techniques to help baby sleep! Babies are welcome! Labour and Birth Class

This workshop is one of a two part series organized by the Simcoe Muskoka Health Unit. Join the Midland Midwives as they teach expectant parents about the physiology of labour and birth, what to expect, complications and pain relief options. It’s a great opportunity to meet other pregnant women and families in the area, and get answers to your labour and birth questions.
