Conversation Map™ – Living with Diabetes Workshop

The Diabetes Conversation Map workshop is a 2-hour interactive class for anyone living with diabetes and looking to learn more about diabetes, self-reflect, and share experiences. This small group is led by a Diabetes Educator in a relaxed environment, who will explore the topic of diabetes including – what is happening in your body, blood glucose targets, emotions, and living a healthy lifestyle. Participants help decide the direction of this workshop based on the interests of the group.

Nordic Pole Walking Group

Do you want to improve your physical health while exploring the walking trails in the North Simcoe community? Join Chigamik’s Nordic Pole Walking group! This popular form of exercise is not only fun but has increased health benefits compared to regular walking. The group also practices additional lower and upper body, stretches and balance exercises. Not sure how to use Nordic Poles? Instruction on how to use the poles will always be available. 

Take advantage of the many benefits Nordic Pole walking has to offer:

  • Increases cardiovascular health
  • Improves strength, posture, balance, and mobility
  • Increases calorie output
  • Decreases stress on lower body joints

Living with Osteoporosis

This four-week series will focus on a new topic each week, followed by a short exercise session led by our physiotherapist. Exercises are tailored specifically to individuals living with Osteoporosis and can help prevent future challenges brought on by the condition.

This is a drop-in and social space for LGBT youth to connect with each other in the community. The goal of this group is to provide a relaxed place to get together, access resources and support LGBT topics/issues. This group is held the FIRST and THIRD Wednesday of each month! In addition to this drop-in, this group holds special events for youth such as:

  • Tea parties
  • Picnics
  • Movie nights
  • Education presentations
  • Guest speaker events
  • Discussion groups (about coping strategies, mental health, etc.)

This group is guided by the interests and imaginations of the youth involved. It is facilitated by supportive adults! Eventually youth will be trained to facilitate this group themselves!

Dental Clinic

The Georgian college dental hygiene students will be visiting Chigamik to provide free dental cleaning, polishing, professional fluoride treatment, and preventative oral care education sessions. *Severe dental needs cannot be addressed at this clinic. A referral letter will be given, if applicable.

Watercolour Workshop

Osteoarthritis of the Spine Workshop

Participants will learn strategies on how to live better with osteoarthritis of the neck or back in this three-hour workshop led by a physiotherapist from the Arthritis Society. Topics will include learning how to better understand your diagnosis, possible causes of pain, as well as good posture habits and strategies for easing daily activities.
